Skalde joins Penguins coaching staff

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that Jarrod Skalde will be the team’s new assistant coach, joining head coach Clark Donatelli and fellow assistant J.D. Forrest behind the Penguins’ bench.

Skalde is already familiar with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s coaches and players after spending last season as player development coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Niagara Falls, Ontario, native also has previous coaching experience at the AHL level, serving as an assistant coach (2013-14) and head coach (2014-15) of the Norfolk Admirals, and has also coached in the OHL, ECHL and IHL.

Skalde’s playing career spanned seven leagues and six countries over 17 seasons. Drafted by New Jersey in 1989, Skalde played 115 NHL games with the Devils, Anaheim, Calgary, Chicago, Dallas, San Jose, Atlanta and Philadelphia, notching 13 goals and 21 assists.

He also played 575 games for nine AHL teams during his career, recording 178 goals and 296 assists for 474 points.
