The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that forward Stephen Gionta has agreed to terms on a one-year, American Hockey League contract.
Entering his 11th professional season, Gionta had spent each of the last 10 years in the New Jersey Devils organization. He played 270 games with New Jersey from 2010-16 and recorded 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists) and 93 penalty minutes, helping the team to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2012. The 33-year-old notched 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) in 82 games with the Devils last season.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Gionta has also played 374 AHL games with the Albany River Rats, Lowell Devils and Albany Devils, producing 146 points (63 goals, 83 assists) and 171 penalty minutes.
The 5-foot-7, 175-pound winger spent four seasons at Boston College prior to turning pro. He totaled 90 points (33 goals, 57 assists) and 182 penalty minutes in 151 games with the Eagles and won the NCAA championship during his junior season in 2004-05.
