The New York Rangers announced today that the team has named Gord Murphy associate head coach of the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.

Murphy, 52, joins the Rangers organization after spending parts of the last 16 seasons as an assistant coach in the NHL. He served alongside current Wolf Pack head coach Kris Knoblauch as an assistant with the Philadelphia Flyers for parts of the last two seasons, part of a five-year tenure with the club.

Murphy has also been an assistant coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets (2002-10) and Florida Panthers (2010-14).

Before beginning his coaching career, Murphy played 15 seasons professionally as a defenseman, including 862 games in the NHL with Philadelphia, Boston, Florida and Atlanta. He also skated in 72 AHL games, and won a Calder Cup championship as a rookie with the Hershey Bears in 1987-88.
