Oilers sign Ondrus to one-year deal

The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons, have agreed to terms with right-winger Ben Ondrus on a one-year contract.

Ondrus, 6-foot, 187 pounds, spent the last seven seasons in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, primarily with their AHL affiliates in St. John’s (2003-05) and Toronto (2005-10).

Last year the 28-year-old scored 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 56 games with the Marlies.

The Sherwood Park, Alta., native has played 392 career AHL games collecting 133 points (64 goals, 69 assists). In 52 career NHL games he has two assists and 77 penalty minutes.

Ondrus, who was captain of the Marlies, played his junior hockey with the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos from 1998-2003.
