Ottawa assigns Kaigorodov to Binghamton

The Ottawa Senators have assigned center Alexei Kaigorodov to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

In his first six NHL games with the Senators, Kaigorodov had an assist, was plus-1 in plus/minus rating and averaged 4:52 time-on-ice per game.

The 23-year-old was Ottawa’s second-round pick, 47th overall, in the 2002 NHL draft. He signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Senators on Sept. 12.

Kaigorodov, a native of Magnitogorsk, Russia, finished the 2005-06 season with 30 points (9g, 21a) and helped lead Magnitogorsk to their second regular-season title in three years.   He led Magnitogorsk in scoring with 49 points (15g, 34a) in 57 games during the 2004-05 season.

Kaigorodov won gold with Russia at the 2001 world under-18 championship and followed that up with another gold medal at the 2003 world junior championship.  He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the second round (47th overall) in 2002.

The Binghamton Senators’ next game is Friday, when they play host to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
