Pavelec stymies Rampage as Wolves win third straight

CHICAGO 3, SAN ANTONIO 1

Chicago goaltender Ondrej Pavelec stifled San Antonio all night, finishing with 32 saves on 33 shots as the Wolves emerged with a 3-1 win over the visiting Rampage on Tuesday at the Allstate Arena.

Joey Crabb and Jordan LaVallee each tallied shorthanded goals for the Wolves, who captured their third consecutive win since an 0-1-1-0 start to the season.

Chicago’s Spencer Machacek opened the game’s scoring at 7:51 of the first period, with Matt Anderson and Joe Motzko picking up the helpers.

After a scoreless second period, Crabb tallied a shorthanded marker just 31 seconds into the third to make it 2-0 Wolves. Colin Stuart picked up the lone assist on that goal.

LaVallee made it 3-0 at 10:11 with an unassisted shorthanded score. That marked the fourth shorthanded goal that the Rampage have allowed in five games this season, matching the total that they allowed during all of 2007-08.

Greg Classen finally put the Rampage on the board with a power play goal at 14:08, but San Antonio would get no closer. Rampage goaltender Al Montoya stopped 35 of 38 shots in the losing effort.

The Rampage did go 10-for-10 on the penalty kill and are now 33-for-36 (.917) for the season.
