Pelletier named AHL’s top player for December

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Providence Bruins left wing Pascal Pelletier has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month for December. Pelletier recorded 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points, along with a plus-12 rating, in 15 games for the Bruins last month.

Pelletier bookended the month with a pair of six-game scoring streaks, beginning things with a goal in Providence’s 5-1 win over Rochester on Dec. 1. He scored twice in the third period of a 4-3 win over Chicago on Dec. 7, and matched his season high with three points (1g, 2a) vs. Portland on Dec. 8. Pelletier picked up a pair of goals, including his second game-winner of the season, in a 3-1 win over Albany on Dec. 27, and wrapped up the month by assisting on the overtime goal in a 3-2 win at Springfield on Dec. 31.

In recognition of his achievement, Pelletier will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Bruins home game.

Pelletier currently leads the AHL with 21 goals and ranks fourth with 42 points in 35 games for Providence this season. The 24-year-old native of Labrador City, Nfld., is in his third AHL season, and has totaled 55 goals and 82 assists for 137 points in 168 games, all with the Bruins. He originally signed with the Boston Bruins as a free agent on July 28, 2006.

Other nominees for CCM/AHL Player of the Month include Albany center Keith Aucoin, Binghamton defenseman Lawrence Nycholat, Chicago center Jason Krog, Hartford left wing Nigel Dawes, Houston goaltender Nolan Schaefer, Lake Erie left wing Eric Healey, Lowell center Petr Vrana, Manchester right wing Teddy Purcell, Manitoba right wing Michael Grabner, Philadelphia center Jared Ross, Quad City right wing Grant Stevenson, San Antonio left wing Matt Murley, Syracuse center Zenon Konopka and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton center Tim Brent.
