Penguins sign Devane, Hirano

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forwards Jamie Devane and Yushiroh Hirano to American Hockey League contracts for the 2019-20 season.

Devane, 28, skated in 27 games with the AHL’s Ontario Reign last season, recording two goals and one assist.

Devane enters his eighth pro season having appeared in 304 AHL contests with Ontario, Stockton, Milwaukee and Toronto, totaling 20 goals and 27 assists for 47 points.

A third-round choice by Toronto in the 2009 NHL Draft, Devane played his junior hockey at Plymouth (OHL) under current Penguins head coach Mike Vellucci.

Hirano, 23, made his AHL debut with the Penguins on April 14, 2019, and recorded an assist as he became just the second Japanese-born and -trained player ever to play in the American Hockey League.

Hirano spent most of 2018-19 with Wheeling (ECHL), tallying 19 goals and 38 assists in 67 games.
