Phantoms take preseason opener

Josh Gratton recorded a goal and an assist as Philadelphia opened the AHL’s 2005 preseason schedule with a 3-1 win over Albany at the Codey Arena at South Mountain in West Orange, N.J., on Sunday afternoon.

The teams will meet again in West Orange on Tuesday.

Albany got on the board first when rugged winger Mike Sgroi opened the scoring at 17:05 of the first period. Chris Minard got the lone assist.

Gratton then set up Marc Cavosie‘s goal to tie the game at 1-1, and scored the eventual game-winner on an assist from Stefan Ruzicka.

Riley Cote added an insurance marker at 7:12 of the third period.

Albany finished with a 33-31 edge in shots on goal.
