The Ontario Reign announced today that David Bell has been named the team’s assistant coach.

Bell, 40, rejoins Reign head coach Mike Stothers after serving as Stothers’ assistant coach in Owen Sound (OHL) from 2004 to 2007.

Bell spent the last four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara IceDogs, including three years as an assistant and last season as head coach, guiding the team to a postseason berth. Bell has also served as an OHL assistant coach in Barrie (2009-11) and Sudbury (2012-13).

A native of Wiarton, Ontario, Bell spent two seasons in the AHL (2007-09) as an assistant coach with the Springfield Falcons.

As a player, Bell skated six pro seasons mostly in the lower minors. He totaled 60 games in the AHL with Springfield, Portland and Saint John, recording two goals, one assist and 202 penalty minutes.
