Sabres sign Stuart

The Buffalo Sabres, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, announced today the Sabres have signed unrestricted free agent forward Colin Stuart to a one-year contract.

Stuart (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) spent last season with the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat where he was fourth in team scoring with a career-high 36 points (17g, 19a) in 67 games.

Stuart has played 351 AHL games over six pro seasons with Abbotsford and Chicago, registering 68 goals and 60 assists for 128 points. Stuart was a member of the Wolves’ 2008 Calder Cup championship team.

The native of Rochester, Minn., has 51 games of NHL experience with the Atlanta Thrashers, collecting eight goals and five assists.

Stuart played four years at Colorado College (2000-04), and was originally drafted by Atlanta in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft.
