Senators score four in 3rd, beat Penguins

(binghamtonsenators.com) — After a slow start, the Binghamton Senators came from behind to beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-3, propelled by four unanswered goals during the final period of regulation.

The game’s scoring opened at 5:49 of the first period when Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward Warren Peters scored his fourth goal of the year with help from Brian Gibbons and Paul Thompson. The Penguins struck again as forward Bobby Farnham netted one, unassisted, at 18:08 to give his team a 2-0 edge heading into the first intermission.

The Penguins widened their lead to three at 5:48 of the second frame. Defenseman Philip Samuelsson scored his first goal of the season with assists by Gibbons and Trevor Smith, keeping the B-Sens scoreless after 40 minutes.

The third period, however, would be a very different story. Forward Jakob Silfverberg finally got the B-Sens on the board at 3:52 with his ninth goal of the season assisted by Stephane Da Costa and Tyler Eckford.

Shane Prince would bring the B-Sens even closer at 4:51, courtesy of Patrick Wiercioch and Da Costa.

At the 15:18 mark Jean-Gabriel Pageau netted Binghamton’s third unanswered goal. Wiercioch drew the lone assist on Pageau’s tally – his first professional goal.

Prince then completed the comeback, scoring the game-winner at 17:15, assisted by Cole Schneider.

Robin Lehner started in net for Binghamton, making 36 saves on 39 shots to earn his eighth victory of the season. Jeff Zatkoff tended goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and came away with the loss after stopping 24 of 28 shots.
