Staffan Kronwall signs deal with Flames

abb_300.jpgThe Calgary Flames, parent club of the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat, announced today the signing of defenseman Staffan Kronwall. The announcement was made by Calgary general manager Darryl Sutter.

Kronwall, a native of Jarfalla, Sweden, has contributed one assist in 55 career NHL games with Toronto and Washington. He was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in 2002.

This past spring, Kronwall led all defensemen in team scoring with three goals and nine assists during 21 playoff games with the AHL’s Hershey Bears, who captured the 2009 Calder Cup championship.

Kronwall split last season in the AHL between the Toronto Marlies and Hershey, and he finished with a career-high 34 points (9-25-34) in 59 contests. He shows 72 points (16-56-72) in 148 career AHL games with the Marlies and Bears.
