In a partnership that will benefit two NHL franchises, the Seattle Kraken will join the Florida Panthers as an affiliate of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers in 2021-22.

Troy Bodie, the recently named head of hockey and business operations for the Kraken’s coming American Hockey League affiliate, feels he’s emulating his parents by partaking in his own husband-wife business.

Shovels went into the ground Wednesday to begin construction on a $250-million, 300,000-square foot arena near Palm Desert that will be home to the AHL’s 32nd franchise beginning in 2022.

The Seattle Kraken have hired Troy Bodie as Director of Hockey and Business Operations for their AHL franchise in Palm Springs, California, that is scheduled to begin play in 2022-23.

The arena plan calls for groundbreaking in May near Palm Desert, aiming for completion in time for the 2022-23 American Hockey League season.

The Seattle Kraken announced the organization’s plans for a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment arena for southern California’s Coachella Valley, which will serve as the home of the Kraken’s AHL franchise beginning in 2022.

A 10,000-seat arena being built in downtown Palm Springs will also have an adjacent training center the AHL team will be headquartered in — with both facilities providing two sheets of ice for use by the team and community.

The AHL’s 32nd team will be located in Palm Springs, Calif., and will begin play as the primary development affiliate of the NHL’s expansion Seattle franchise in the fall of 2021.
