The AHL remembers Rick Pyman

Rick Pyman, the creative force behind several American Hockey League television properties for nearly 20 years, passed away earlier this week outside Toronto.

Pyman, a 49-year-old married father of two, was killed in a traffic accident on Monday after stopping and pulling over to come to the aid of a woman and her young child who had been injured in a van rollover.

A well-known television producer, Pyman operated Pyman Studios in Mississauga, Ont., and was responsible for the concept and long-time production of Rinkside and Inside the AHL, the AHL’s highly successful highlight and interview programs which aired throughout the United States and Canada.

He also produced the first national telecasts of AHL games in Canada and was a valuable advisor to the league on television and media efforts.

In lieu of flowers, the Rick Pyman Fund for Minor Hockey is being established in Pyman’s memory.
