Three games, three shootouts

All three games on Tuesday’s AHL schedule were decided by a shootout, including Utah’s marathon win over San Antonio.

The Grizzlies and Rampage went a season-high 11 rounds in their shootout before Utah earned its first home win of the season. The final score was 2-1.

Jeff Taffe converted on all three of his attempts, keeping the game alive in round 6 after Paul Healey had put San Antonio in front, and winning it in round 11.

Ryan Jardine scored in round 9 for the Rampage, but Kiel McLeod answered for the Grizzlies.

David LeNeveu finished with 31 saves before stopping eight of 11 shootout attempts. Travis Scott made 34 stops and was 7-for-11.

The win snapped Utah’s eight-game home winless skid.

In Edmonton, Brad Leeb‘s second successful shootout attempt held up as the winner as St. John’s posted a 4-3 road win at Rexall Place.

Tony Salmelainen scored twice in regulation for the Road Runners, but failed on his fifth-round shootout attempt that would have won the game.

It was the 10th win in 13 games for the Maple Leafs.

Mike Smith made 38 saves for Houston, then stopped three of four shootout attempts as the Aeros beat Cleveland, 3-2.

Mikko Koivu, Marc Cavosie and Mark Cullen all scored in the shootout for the Aeros, who won for the eighth time in their last 12 road games.
