Vandermeer lands with Capitals

The Washington Capitals, parent club of the AHL’s Hershey Bears, announced today the signing of free-agent left wing Peter Vandermeer.

In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vandermeer, 30, is entering his 11th professional season and is a veteran of 447 career American Hockey League games. Last season, as a member of the Hamilton Bulldogs, the 6-foot, 210-pound native of Red Deer, Alta., recorded six goals and six assists (12 points) in 67 games while accumulating 276 penalty minutes.

Vandermeer has posted four AHL seasons with 300-plus penalty minutes, and currently ranks sixth on the league’s all-time list with 2,035 PIM.

In parts of nine AHL seasons with Hamilton, Grand Rapids, Philadelphia, Providence, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Rochester, Vandermeer has also recorded 49 goals and 56 assists for 105 points.
