Wolves bump off Griffins, 3-2

The Chicago Wolves nailed down their third straight preseason win with a 3-2 victory against the Grand Rapids Griffins in Rolling Meadows, Ill., on Thursday night.

The contest was even through the first period as both teams fired 13 shots but were held scoreless. Chicago’s Justin Kurtz netted the first goal of the game during the second period with help from Brad Schell and Joey Crabb.

The Griffins were quick to answer as Andrew Martin lit the lamp off a pass from Ryan Keller. Soon after, Brendan Brooks set up Lucas Lawson to give Grand Rapids a 2-1 lead heading into intermission.

The Wolves rallied in the third, with Brian Fahey and Jordan LaVallee scoring in the final frame.

Chicago’s Michael Garnett stopped all 16 shots he faced while Brendan Cuthbert finished with 14 saves on 16 shots. For Grand Rapids, Stefan Liv made 25 saves before giving way to Dominic Vacari, who wound up with 13 stops on 15 attempts.


HARTFORD 4, WORCESTER 1

The Worcester Sharks dropped their first preseason game of the inaugural 2006-07 hockey season by a score of 4-1 to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Thursday night in Simsbury, Conn.
