Wolves sign defenseman Alex Brooks

chi_200.jpgThe AHL’s Chicago Wolves have signed defenseman Alex Brooks to a contract for the 2008-09 season.

The blueliner collected a professional career-high eight assists and 90 penalty minutes in 70 American Hockey League games with the Peoria Rivermen last season, his seventh as a pro.

Overall, the Madison, Wis., native has racked up 416 penalty minutes and 36 points (3-33-36) in 355 career AHL games with the Albany River Rats (2002-2006), Lowell Devils (2006-07) and Rivermen (2007-08).

Brooks, 32, made his National Hockey League debut during the 2006-07 season when he appeared in 19 games with the New Jersey Devils, notching one assist and four penalty minutes.

The University of Wisconsin graduate also tallied 41 points (8-33-41) and 299 penalty minutes in 159 games, spanning four seasons (1997 to 2001) with the Badgers.
