AHL All-Star Vesce summoned to San Jose

wor_200.jpgSan Jose Sharks executive vice president and general manager Doug Wilson announced on Wednesday afternoon that the club has recalled forward Ryan Vesce from the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

Vesce made his NHL debut in the Sharks’ game at Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

Vesce leads Worcester with 53 points (16 goals, 37 assists) in 48 games and was selected to the 2009 PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team. He is currently tied for sixth overall among AHL scorers.

The 26-year-old has registered a point in 16 straight games (8-17-25) for Worcester, the longest active streak in the AHL and the second-longest of the season.

Vesce was previously recalled on Jan. 31 but did not appear in a game.

Vesce was originally signed by San Jose as a free agent on August 12, 2008. He played collegiately for four seasons at Cornell, where he was a teammate of Douglas Murray.
