AHL Quick Hits: Bears, Bulldogs meet in Hershey

On Tuesday, Nick Dodge scored twice in regulation and Jonathan Paiement netted the only shootout goal as Albany edged Portland by a 4-3 count in Buffalo… Ryan Maki scored twice – including the game-winner – to lead Milwaukee over Grand Rapids, 4-3… Rochester scored three times in the third period to defeat Iowa, 4-1, in the opener of a five-game road trip.

ahllive_300.jpgPhiladelphia travels to Tsongas Arena to battle Lowell on Wednesday to begin a three-game road swing… The Phantoms sit five points out of the East Division’s final postseason berth, while the Devils are four points back of the Atlantic’s last entry… Philadelphia has won seven straight games from the Devils over the past two seasons, but Lowell is 5-2-0-0 in its last seven outings overall… Jared Ross leads the Phantoms with 19 goals (19-23-42) in 38 AHL games, and he shows four goals and six points in three games against Lowell this season… Rookie Patrick Maroon has a point in three straight games (0-4-4) and four of five (1-6-7) for Philadelphia, and David Laliberte has netted a goal in his last two outings (2-0-2)… Devils forward Matt Halischuk shows five points (2-3-5) in his last two games, while fellow rookie Vladimir Zharkov has a goal in two straight (2-1-3)… Lowell is just 2-8-1-2 against East Division opponents this season; the Phantoms are 10-2-0-0 against the Atlantic.

Manitoba continues its 10-game road swing in Hartford on Wednesday, the Moose’s first trip to Connecticut’s capital since Dec. 4, 2002… The Moose and Wolf Pack split a pair of games in Winnipeg last month… Manitoba is 3-0-0-1 in its last four games and is tied for the league lead with 74 points overall (35-14-0-4), including a 17-4-0-2 road record… Leading goal-scorer Michael Grabner (19-9-28) has rejoined the Moose after missing five games to represent his native Austria in an Olympic qualifying tournament… Defenseman Nolan Baumgartner has scored two of his six goals this year against Hartford, including the game-winner with 1.7 seconds left in overtime on Jan. 7… The Wolf Pack boast the AHL’s third- and fourth-ranked scorers in Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau (22-36-58) and Artem Anisimov (22-32-54)… Parenteau is on a six-game scoring streak (3-7-10), while Anisimov shows a four-game run (1-5-6)… Anisimov and Mike Ouellette have netted two goals apiece agianst the Moose this season.

Hamilton kicks off a four-game swing through the East Division against Hershey on Wednesday… The Bulldogs defeated the Bears, four games to one, in the 2007 Calder Cup Finals… Hamilton is coming off a 1-0 shutout of Lake Erie on Sunday in which rookie Brock Trotter netted the game’s lone goal and Marc Denis stopped all 25 shots he faced… Denis, a 1997 Calder Cup champion with Hershey, registered a 37-save shutout and rookies Ben Maxwell and David Desharnais each posted a goal and an assist in the Bulldogs’ 6-0 win over the Bears in Hamilton on Oct. 29… The Bulldogs boast the AHL’s third-best power play at 20.9 percent, including 22.7 percent on the road… Hershey, tied for the league lead with 74 points, had a 10-game points streak (7-0-0-3) snapped in a 3-2 loss to Portland on Sunday… Graham Mink has a goal in three straight games (3-2-5) for the Bears, while Andrew Gordon shows a point in four straight (4-3-7)… The Bears are averaging a league-high 3.85 goals per game, and Hamilton ranks third in that category at 3.41 per game.
