Rookie Gerbe recalled by Sabres

por_200.jpgBuffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have recalled forward Nathan Gerbe from Portland of the American Hockey League.

Gerbe (7/24/1987, 5’6”, 160 lbs.) is tied for the AHL rookie scoring lead with 37 points (20-17-37) in 32 games this season. His 20 goals pace all league rookies outright.

This is Gerbe’s second recall of the season; he had one assist during a six-game stint in December. He made his NHL debut on December 6 in Tampa Bay.

Gerbe was already in Buffalo after netting a goal in Portland’s 4-3 shootout loss to Albany at the HSBC Arena on Tuesday. He had registered a point in three straight games (1-2-3) for the Pirates.

A native of Oxford, MI, Gerbe was Buffalo’s fifth-round selection (142nd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
