Nathan Walker‘s goal 7:38 into overtime broke a scoreless tie and sent Hershey to a 1-0 win over Lehigh Valley in their series opener last night… The Bears hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five as the Phantoms host Game 2 this evening… Walker collected the rebound of Tyler Lewington‘s shot and shoveled it past Alex Lyon to end Game 1, an unexpected defensive duel between the first-ranked (Lehigh Valley) and third-ranked (Hershey) offenses in the league… Walker’s goal, the third of his playoff career, ended the Bears’ postseason scoreless drought at 169:56, dating back to Game 3 of last year’s Calder Cup Finals… Last night’s contest was also just the 12th game in Calder Cup Playoffs history to be 0-0 through regulation… Pheonix Copley made 32 saves for his first career playoff shutout… Lyon finished with 20 stops in his postseason debut for the Phantoms… After not being shut out over the first 65 games of the season, Lehigh Valley has been blanked four times in its last 12 contests.

Charlie Lindgren made 28 saves in his playoff debut last night, helping St. John’s to a 2-1 win and a 1-0 lead in the North Division semifinal series with Syracuse… Game 2 is this evening at Mile One Centre with the IceCaps looking for one more victory before the series shifts to Syracuse for the duration… Nikita Scherbak and Chris Terry scored for the IceCaps in last night’s opener, and Charles Hudon recorded two assists… Terry now has 11-9-20 in 30 career Calder Cup Playoff games… Eleven of the 19 players who played for the IceCaps last night were making their AHL postseason debuts… Sixth-year pro Tye McGinn, in the first playoff game of his career, scored the only goal for the Crunch in Game 1… Mike McKenna stopped 19 of 21 shots in defeat… Syracuse was 1-for-5 on the power play; St. John’s was 1-for-4… Visitors came to Mile One Centre for 19 two-game series during the regular season; the IceCaps only swept two of them (Nov. 1-2 vs. Utica, Mar. 17-18 vs. Rochester).

The puck drops on Game 2 of the North Division Semifinals this evening with host Albany holding a 1-0 series lead… Mackenzie Blackwood made 27 saves in his pro playoff debut on Thursday night, backstopping the Devils to a 3-0 win in Game 1… It was the second consecutive shutout for the rookie Blackwood, who blanked Rochester in Albany’s regular-season finale last Saturday… Ben Thomson opened the scoring for the Devils in the first period of Game 1, John Quenneville added a power-play goal in the second and Brian Gibbons capped the scoring with an empty-netter in the game’s final minute… Garret Sparks made 20 saves for the Marlies, who had been shut out just once during the entire regular season (Mar. 5 vs. St. John’s).

After Jonny Brodzinski‘s second goal of the night with 11.7 seconds remaining lifted Ontario to a 3-2 road win in Game 1 last night, the Reign host San Diego in Game 2 this evening… Adrian Kempe stole the puck behind the Gulls cage and set up Brodzinski for the game-winner, his seventh goal in 11 games against San Diego this season… T.J. Hensick had a goal and Sam Herr recorded two assists for the Reign… Hensick now has 4-2-6 in nine career playoff games… Ontario built a 2-0 lead in Game 1 before San Diego tied it on goals by Sam Carrick and Nic Kerdiles 3:56 apart in the second period… After leading the AHL with 31 wins in the regular season, Jack Campbell stopped 32 shots in the Game 1 victory… Jhonas Enroth made 27 saves in the loss for the Gulls… Ontario has now won five of the six playoff games between the teams over the last two postseasons, including four one-goal victories and the fifth by a goal plus an empty-netter.

In last night’s Stanley Cup Playoff action, Sean Kuraly scored the first two goals of his NHL career — including the winner in double overtime — as Boston staved off elimination with a 3-2 win in Ottawa… Kuraly, who played 54 games as a rookie with Providence in the regular season, is the fourth skater to score an OT goal in these Stanley Cup Playoffs after playing in the AHL earlier this season (joining Pittsburgh’s Jake Guentzel, Toronto’s Kasperi Kapanen and Nashville’s Kevin Fiala)… Braden Holtby made 24 saves in Washington’s 2-1 overtime victory over Toronto.
