Bruins take Game 2 from Checkers

Peter Cehlarik notched the winning goal 9:41 into the third period as Providence evened their Atlantic Division semifinal series with a 4-2 win over visiting Charlotte on Sunday evening.

Tied at one game apiece, the teams head to Charlotte for the remainder of the series, beginning Wednesday.

For the second night in a row, an early two-goal lead disappeared; in Game 2 it was Providence jumping in front on goals by Cooper Zech and Jack Studnicka.

The Checkers, who squandered 2-0 and 4-3 leads in the opener before pulling out a 5-4 victory, got goals 79 seconds apart from Andrew Poturalski and Dan Renouf late in the middle period to make it 2-2.

Cehlarik, who had gone 11 games without a goal, put the B’s back up with 10:19 to play, and Chris Breen added an empty-net goal to finish off the scoring.

Dan Vladar made his playoff debut in net for Providence and stopped 25 shots for the win. Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves for the Checkers.
