Bulldogs sign defenseman Finley

The Hamilton Bulldogs have signed defenseman Joe Finley to a one-year American Hockey League contract for the 2014-15 season.

Finley spent the 2013-14 season with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In 29 regular-season games with Bridgeport, the 27-year-old recorded two assists and 50 penalty minutes.

In five seasons as a pro, Finley has participated in 130 regular-season games in the AHL, recording two goals, 12 assists, 296 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating with Bridgeport, Rochester and Hershey. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound defenseman has also skated in 21 games in the NHL with Buffalo and the New York Islanders, picking up one assist.

Before turning pro, Finley played four seasons with the University of North Dakota (2005-09). He was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the first round (27th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
