Lyon, Martel lead Phantoms in Game 1

Alex Lyon made 39 saves, Danick Martel scored twice and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms took Game 1 of their Atlantic Division semifinal series over the Providence Bruins on Friday night, 3-2.

Game 2 is Saturday night in Providence.

Martel, who scored a career-high 25 goals in the regular season, tied the game at 1-1 just 16 seconds after the Bruins had grabbed the lead, and netted the game-winner on a power play with 4:47 left in the second period.

Greg Carey also scored and T.J. Brennan recorded two assists for Lehigh Valley, which is 3-0 on the road over the last two postseasons.

Lyon’s 39 stops were good for his first career playoff victory.

Ryan Fitzgerald netted both goals for the Bruins, and Austin Czarnik tallied two assists.
