Maltais earns Milestone of the Month

The American Hockey League has named Chicago Wolves forward Steve Maltais as the recipient of the CCM AHL Milestone of the Month award for January.

On Jan. 19, Maltais reached a most impressive plateau when he scored the 600th goal of his professional career in the first period of Chicago’s 6-3 loss to Hamilton at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. Maltais finished January with 600 goals and 671 assists for 1,271 points in 1,213 career games since turning pro in 1989.

A member of the Wolves for each of the franchise’s 11 seasons, Maltais has scored 449 of his goals in a Chicago uniform and 208 in the American Hockey League. He was a Second Team AHL All-Star in 2004 and won the AHL’s scoring title in 2003, and has registered four 50-goal seasons in his career, scoring a career-high 60 in 1996-97.

Maltais has helped lead the Wolves to three league championships, including their first Calder Cup in 2002. The Arvida, Que., native has 487 points in 492 career AHL games, and is tied for 13th in AHL history in postseason points (76), goals (32) and assists (44) in 74 games over six Calder Cup Playoff appearances.

In recognition of the CCM AHL Milestone of the Month, Maltais will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Wolves home game.
