Toronto scored three times in the third period to pull away with a 5-2 win over Utica in Game 2 of their North Division semifinal series on Sunday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum.

The Marlies will look to complete the sweep when they take their 2-0 series lead into Game 3 in Utica on Wednesday night.

After Utica’s Michael Chaput tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period, Toronto regained the lead on Colin Greening‘s first goal of the postseason at 2:16.

Carl Grundstrom tacked on an insurance goal with 8:40 to play, and Trevor Moore capped the scoring with an empty-netter at the 19:00 mark.

The Marlies’ third-period outburst was nothing new: Toronto scored 101 goals in the third period during the regular season, most of any AHL team in any period this year.

Frederik Gauthier and Martin Marincin tallied two assists each and Garret Sparks (2-0) made 23 saves to pick up the victory.

Thatcher Demko (1-1) stopped 24 shots for the Comets, who have now lost five straight road games going back to the regular season.
