McDonald returning to Phantoms for 2018-19

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms announced that forward Colin McDonald has signed an AHL contract for the 2018-19 season.

McDonald is returning for his fourth campaign with the Phantoms, having served as team captain since 2015. The 33-year-old native of Wethersfield, Conn., tallied eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 56 games with Lehigh Valley last season.

A two-time AHL All-Star (2011, 2012), McDonald has skated in 628 career AHL games with Lehigh Valley, Bridgeport, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Oklahoma City and Springfield, totaling 157 goals and 181 assists for 333 points. He won the AHL’s Willie Marshall Award in 2010-11 when he led the league with 42 goals.

McDonald also has 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points in 36 postseason games.

Originally a second-round draft pick by Edmonton in 2003, McDonald has appeared in 148 career games in the NHL with Edmonton, Pittsburgh, the N.Y. Islanders and Philadelphia, registering 20 goals and 26 assists for 46 points.
