Moose take another one-goal victory, move up 2-0

MANITOBA 2, GRAND RAPIDS 1

Jason Krog broke a 1-1 tie at 10:10 of the second period, and it held up as the game-winner as Manitoba edged Grand Rapids by a 2-1 count in Game 2 of the North Division Finals on Saturday before 8,444 fans at the MTS Centre.

The Moose claimed their second consecutive 2-1 and will take a 2-0 series lead on the road to Grand Rapids.

Alexandre Bolduc followed up a two-point performance (1-1-2) in the series opener on Friday with another goal and an assist in Game 2.

Bolduc opened the night’s scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal just 4:34 into the first period, tallying the Moose’s first shorthander of the postseason and his third goal overall.

The 1-0 lead held until the Griffins’ Darren McCarty netted a power play goal at 6:31 of the second period, with assists going to defensemen Brian Lashoff and Garrett Stafford.

Bolduc picked up the lone assist on Krog’s game-winner, which was his third goal and team-leading 10th point of the postseason. Neither team scored over the final 29:50 of action.

Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 29 shots in net, as he and the Moose earned their fifth consecutive victories.

The Griffins, who were 3-0 on the road during their opening-round win over Hamilton but are 0-2 to begin the second round, will try to get back in the series when the scene shifts to Grand Rapids for Game 3 on Monday evening.
