St. John’s improved to 5-1-1-0 on the season with a 5-1 win over Portland last night, setting up tonight’s rematch in the finale of a six-game homestand for the IceCaps… Riley Holzapfel netted his fourth goal of the year — and his league-leading third game-winner — and John Albert scored his first professional goal as St. John’s scored three times on 18 shots in the third period… Former Pirates Jason King and Brett Festerling also scored for the IceCaps, who got 28 saves from Edward Pasquale in his season debut… Kyle Chipchura had the only goal for Portland (2-4-0-1), which has lost three in a row.

Norfolk heads to Glens Falls to take on Adirondack in the first of eight meetings between the teams this season… The Admirals are coming off a 3-1 loss in Charlotte on Sunday, but still lead the AHL in goals (4.43) and shots (42.7) per game… Norfolk forwards Carter Ashton (6-4-10) and Cory Conacher (4-5-9) are the top two rookie scorers in the AHL followed by the Phantoms’ Brayden Schenn (4-4-8), who is on NHL recall to Philadelphia… Rookie Harry Zolnierczyk has 3-4-7 in seven games for Adirondack, and he scored a goal in his NHL debut with the Flyers on Oct. 18 at Ottawa… At 5-2-0-0, the Phantoms are three games over .500 for the first time since moving to Glens Falls after the 2008-09 season.

Syracuse and Lake Erie meet for the third time in six days as the Crunch pay a visit to the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland… The teams traded overtime victories last weekend, with each rallying from a third-period deficit to win… Syracuse (3-1-1-1) suffered its first regulation loss of the season on Sunday, a 7-0 defeat in Hershey… The Crunch’s Kyle Palmieri (8-2-10) leads the AHL in goals and is tied for first in the league in plus/minus (+7)… Fresh off a five-game road swing, the Monsters play nine of their next 11 games at home… Rookie defensemen Stefan Elliott and Tyson Barrie scored the overtime goals in Lake Erie’s wins Saturday (at Syracuse) and Sunday (at Toronto).

Springfield tries to rebound from a three-loss weekend with a visit to Manchester tonight… The Falcons (3-5-0-0) have totaled two goals in three games since a 5-3 win over the Monarchs on Oct. 16… John Moore is on NHL recall to Columbus, where he scored his first career NHL goal last night, but fellow defenseman David Savard was assigned to Springfield by the Blue Jackets earlier today… Manchester is home for the first time since Oct. 8, and is looking to put the brakes on a four-game losing streak… The Monarchs have suffered four straight regulation losses for the first time since Dec. 16-20, 2008… Andrei Loktionov (3-8-11) is tied for the AHL lead in assists and plus/minus (+7).

Abbotsford begins a stretch of four in a row and 15 of the next 19 on the road with a visit to Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto tonight… The Heat (4-2-0-0) have scored more than two goals in a game just once this season, but have yet to allow more than three… Leland Irving (4-2-0, 1.82, .917) has started all six games for Abbotsford on the year, stopping 122 of 133 shots… For the Marlies (4-1-1-0), tonight is their final home game before a nine-game road swing… Joey Crabb (6-6-12) and Joe Colborne (5-7-12) both sit one point off the AHL scoring lead… Crabb, the reigning Reebok/AHL Player of the Week, has 5-6-11 in his last four games, while Colborne and Mike Zigomanis (2-7-9) have points in all six games this season.
