The New Jersey Devils, parent club of the AHL’s Albany Devils, have signed free agent forward Paul Thompson to a two-year, two-way contract with an average annual value of $575,000 at the NHL level.
Thompson, 26, set a new franchise record and finished tied for second in the American Hockey League with 33 goals in 73 games for Albany last season; he had entered 2014-15 with 39 goals in 200 AHL contests. Thompson ranked second in the AHL with 13 power-play tallies and was fifth with 237 shots on goal, and represented Albany at the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward has totaled 72 goals and 55 assists for 127 points in 273 career games in the AHL, including parts of four seasons under new Devils head coach John Hynes in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Thompson originally signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent on March 28, 2011.
