Sabres sign Szczechura, Ryan

Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier today announced that center Paul Szczechura and left wing Michael Ryan have both agreed to one-year contracts.

The Sabres are the parent club of the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

Szczechura set career highs in 2010-11 with 22 goals, 30 assists and 52 points while appearing in 79 games for the Norfolk Admirals. The 25-year-old native of Brantford, Ont., has skated in 214 AHL games over four-plus seasons, registering 62 goals and 86 assists for 146 points.

Szczechura has also played 83 NHL games with Tampa Bay, recording nine goals and seven assists.

Ryan, who spent five seasons with the Sabres organization from 2003-08, totaled 26 goals and 18 assists for 44 points in 58 AHL games with Springfield and Adirondack in 2010-11. Overall, Ryan has skated in 311 AHL games during his career, recording 107 goals and 101 assists for 208 points. The Boston native appeared in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2009.

In 83 career NHL contests, Ryan has seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.
