Senators add Peca from Montreal

The Ottawa Senators have acquired forward Matthew Peca from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Aaron Luchuk and a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Peca, 26, has tallied four goals and nine assists in 34 games with the AHL’s Laval Rocket this season. He has also skated in five NHL games with Montreal.

A fifth-year pro from Petawawa, Ont., Peca has played 238 regular-season games in the AHL with Laval and Syracuse, recording 38 goals and 109 assists for 147 points. He also has eight goals and 17 assists in 31 postseason games, reaching the Calder Cup Finals in 2017.

Originally selected by Tampa Bay in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Peca has notched six goals and 11 assists in 64 career NHL outings with the Lightning and Canadiens.

Luchuk, 22, has 50 points in 46 games with Newfoundland and Brampton (ECHL) this season. He has also made three AHL appearances with Toronto.

Luchuk spent his rookie season in the Senators organization in 2018-19, notching four goals and five assists in 27 games with Belleville.
