ROCKFORD 2, PEORIA 1 (OT)
2007 Second Team AHL All-Star Troy Brouwer scored 3:34 into overtime as Rockford defeated Peoria, 2-1, in Loves Park, Ill., on Saturday.
Brouwer recorded 79 points in 66 AHL games for Norfolk last season, finishing second among league rookies and tied for ninth overall in scoring.
Michael Blunden also scored for the IceHogs, Colin Fraser recorded two assists and Corey Crawford stopped 27 of 28 shots on the night.
Francois-Pierre Guenette had the lone goal for the Rivermen. Marek Schwarz made 26 saves in defeat.
LOWELL 3, BRIDGEPORT 2
Stephen Gionta’s second goal of the game came 9:08 into the third period and gave Lowell a 3-2 win over visiting Bridgeport on Saturday night.
The Devils scored first, with Gionta getting credit for the tally off a Bridgeport defender at 9:16. Noah Clarke and Mark Fraser assisted on the goal. Rosario Ruggeri put the Devils up 2-0 later in the first, pinching in from the point and burying a power-play marker at 16:47. Lowell outshot the Sound Tigers 13-1 in the frame.
Bridgeport stormed back in the second period to tie the score at 2-2. Justin Bourne cut the lead in half just 1:46 into the middle stanza with a shorthanded tally, and Steve Regier notched the equalizer on the power-play in the final minute.
Frank Doyle stopped five of six Bridgeport shots over the first half of the game before being relieved by Jordan Parise, who turned aside 23 of 24, including all 17 shots faced in the third period.
Maxime Ouellet (12 saves, 2 GA) and Michael Mole (10 saves, 1 GA) shared the goaltending chores for the Sound Tigers.
HERSHEY 6, NORFOLK 2
Chris Bourque scored 17 seconds into the game and Hershey never looked back, taking a 6-2 preseason decision from Norfolk on Saturday.
Bourque, Scott Barney, Grant Potulny and Sasha Pokulok finished with a goal and an assist each for the Bears. Andrew Joudrey and former Admirals captain Jason Morgan also scored for Hershey.
Justin Fletcher and Blair Jones scored for Norfolk.
PORTLAND 5, MANCHESTER 2
Andrew Ebbett and Clay Wilson each scored twice as Portland potted five unanswered goals en route to a 5-2 win over Manchester.
Patrik Hersley scored twice and Erik Ersberg made 13 saves as the Monarchs took a 2-0 lead at the halfway point of the second period. But the Pirates responded with five goals on 22 shots off Ersberg’s replacement, Curtis Darling.
Andy Schneider added a goal and an assist and Matt Keith dished out three assists for Portland, while J.P. Levasseur went the distance in net and made 25 saves.
MILWAUKEE 4, CHICAGO 2
Kelsey Wilson scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and Milwaukee went on to double up Chicago, 4-2.
Richard Stehlik scored twice for the Admirals and Antti Pihlstrom added a goal and an assist.
Colton Fretter and Chad Denny scored for the Wolves.
HAMILTON 7, ROCHESTER 6 (OT)
Hamilton scored twice in the final 44 seconds of regulation and Gerard Miller capped the comeback 3:38 into overtime as the Bulldogs rallied past Rochester, 7-6, in Hagersville, Ont.
The Bulldogs were down 6-4 when Janne Lahti scored his second goal of the night at the 19:16 mark of the third period, and Jonathan Ferland capped a four-point effort with his second goal at 19:53.
The Amerks had built an early 4-0 lead on goals by Kenndal McArdle, Pierre-Luc Faubert (2) and Mike Duco.
HARTFORD 4, SPRINGFIELD 0
Chris Holt made 17 saves as Hartford shut out Springfield, 4-0, at the MassMutual Center.
The Wolf Pack got on the board midway through the first period when Hugh Jessiman opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:40. In the middle frame, Jordan Owens gave the Pack a 2-0 advantage when he converted at 16:49, and Hartford added a pair of goals in the final frame, one by former Falcon Mitch Fritz and another by Greg Moore.
Devan Dubnyk stopped 26 of 30 shots for Springfield.
HOUSTON 5, SAN ANTONIO 4
Morten Madsen (1g, 2a) and Ryan Hamilton (3a) had three points each to lead Houston to a 5-4 win over San Antonio in Beaumont, Texas.
Adrian Foster, Jeff May, Andre Lakos and Moises Gutierrez scored power-play goals for the Aeros, who were 4-for-8 on the night.
Enver Lisin, Keith Yandle, Chris Durno and Alex Leavitt scored for the Rampage.
MANITOBA 3, TORONTO 2 (OT)
Danny Groulx scored 90 seconds into overtime to give Manitoba a 3-2 win over Toronto in Dryden, Ont.
Jimmy Sharrow and Milan Gajic also scored for the Moose, while Alex Foster and Colin Murphy had the goals for the Marlies.
BINGHAMTON 5, WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 1
Binghamton jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and went on to a 5-1 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Shawn Weller opened the scoring 3:17 into the contest, picking up a rebound off Jeremy Yablonski’s wraparound attempt and beating David Brown. Tomas Kudelka doubled the lead five minutes later, snapping off a shot from the slot that beat the Penguins netminder high. Brian Yandle, who had a brief tryout with the Penguins during the 2006 postseason, made it 3-0 with a power-play goal on a blistering slap shot with just two seconds left in the first frame.
Mark Letestu got the Penguins on the board at 8:11 of the second period, taking a quick feed from Kevin Croxton and one-timing the shot past Jeff Glass.
Brown stopped 17 of 20 shots during the first half of the game for the Penguins, giving way to Ray Jean (13 saves) at 10:53 of the second period. The rookie goalie from Bentley University quickly fell victim to the Senators attack, allowing a Ryan Garlock shot to slip through with 6:27 left in the period, making the score 4-1. Garlock added an empty-net goal late in the third.
Glass turned aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced in the win.
WORCESTER 4, PROVIDENCE 3 (SO)
Patrick Traverse scored twice in regulation and Riley Armstrong followed his two-point night with a shootout goal in Worcester’s 4-3 win over Providence in Marlborough, Mass.
Tom Walsh added two assists for the Sharks and Taylor Dakers made 34 saves before shutting out the Bruins on four attempts in the shootout.
Vladimir Sobotka, Kenny Smith and Martins Karsums scored for Providence.
ALBANY 5, SYRACUSE 3
Bobby Hughes scored two of Albany’s four power-play goals in a 5-3 win at Syracuse on Saturday.
Jakub Petruzalek had a goal and two assists and Mike Angelidis and Mark Flood also scored for the River Rats.
Adam Pineault, Petr Pohl and Kevin Jarman scored for the Crunch.
IOWA 6, QUAD CITY 3
Janos Vas led the way with two goals and an assist as Iowa defeated Quad City, 6-3, in Davenport, Iowa.
Mark Bomersback, B.J. Crombeen, Marius Holtet and John Lammers also scored for the visiting Stars, who scored twice in each period.
Eric Nystrom, Aki Seitsonen and David Van der Gulik scored for the Flames.
