Lake Erie (0-3-0-0) looks to break out of an early slide as it heads to Toronto for a pair of games, beginning this afternoon with the Marlies’ home opener at Ricoh Coliseum… The Monsters have allowed just six goals in their first three games, but their offense has scored just twice… Both Lake Erie goals this season have come off the stick of Greg Mauldin… Defensemen Stefan Elliott (0-2-2), Tyson Barrie (0-1-1) and Cameron Gaunce (0-1-1) are the only other Monsters skaters with a point… Toronto saw its record evened at 1-1-0-0 with a 3-2 loss in Grand Rapids last night… Joe Colborne leads the Marlies’ offense with 2-1-3 so far.

Nathan Lawson stopped 40 shots and Phil DeSimone scored his first two pro goals as Hamilton blanked St. John’s last night, 4-0, to spoil the IceCaps’ inaugural home opener; the teams go at it again tonight at Mile One Centre… The Bulldogs were 3-for-4 on the power play last night and have five goals in eight chances (62.5 percent) on the young season… A three-assist effort last night leaves Brock Trotter tied for the league scoring lead with seven points (2-5-7) in two games… Joonas Nattinen and Dany Masse also scored for the Bulldogs last night.

Charlotte kicks off its home schedule with the first of a two-game set against Peoria, one of its new Midwest Division rivals… Both the Checkers (0-1-1-0) and the Rivermen (0-2-0-0) enter the weekend series in search of their first win of the season… Jon Matsumoto had 2-4-6 in two games for Charlotte last weekend, and Drayson Bowman and Jerome Samson each scored twice as well… Charlotte allowed 44 shots on goal in each of its first two outings… T.J. Hensick and Brett Sterling lead the Peoria offense with 1-2-3 apiece.

Connecticut stages its 2011-12 home opener and welcomes in-state foe Bridgeport to the XL Center tonight… Andre Deveaux and Carl Hagelin scored for Connecticut in a 3-2 shootout loss at Albany last night, the Whale’s second consecutive trip to the shootout… Kris Newbury has 3-2-5 for Connecticut this season, but no other player on the Whale roster has more than one point… The Whale’s Chad Johnson (1-0-1, 0.92, .972 this season) was 5-0-1 with a 1.46 GAA and a .949 save percentage in six appearances against the Sound Tigers in the 2010-11 season series… Bridgeport was on the short end of a 6-3 score at Adirondack last night, getting goals from Chris Langkow, Justin DiBenedetto and Jeremy Colliton.

After a wild 7-5 Bears win last night, Hershey and Norfolk wrap up their weekend set at Giant Center in the home opener for the Chocolate and White… Chris Bourque led the Bears with five points (2-3) in the win, Cody Eakin scored twice and Jacob Micflikier added a goal and two assists as Hershey moved to 3-0-0-0 on the year… Norfolk, which has scored 15 goals and taken 134 shots in its first three games, saw five different players score, including 2009 second-round draft pick Richard Panik with his first professional goal… Hershey is 9-0-0-1 in its last 10 home games vs. the Admirals.

Manchester is the guest for Portland’s 19th home opener as the rivals do battle at the Cumberland County Civic Center tonight… While the Pirates have been off since last Saturday, the Monarchs erupted for a 7-1 win in Providence last night… Richard Clune had two goals and an assist, David Kolomatis added a goal and two assists and Justin Azevedo scored twice for Manchester, while Martin Jones stopped 29 of 30 shots… Mathieu Beaudoin scored twice in Portland’s season-opening 4-2 win over Bridgeport last week… Pirates rookie forward Brett Hextall is the son of Monarchs general manager Ron Hextall.

After allowing 15 goals in its first three games, Providence pays a visit to Springfield tonight to take on a Falcons club that has scored 15 times in its first three outings… Nick Drazenovic, Martin St. Pierre and Mike Thomas each had a goal and an assist in Springfield’s 7-4 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last night… Josh Hennessy had the Bruins’ only goal in last night’s 7-1 loss to Manchester… Providence has killed off nine of 11 shorthanded situations (81.8 percent) on the year.

After getting in the win column with a 3-2 shootout victory over Connecticut last night, Albany hits the road for the first time this season, paying a visit to Worcester for the Sharks’ home opener… Joe Whitney and Matt Anderson scored in regulation as the Devils erased a two-goal deficit last night, and Matt Taormina had the only goal of the shootout… Keith Kinkaid made 30 saves for his first professional win, and was recalled by the New Jersey Devils earlier today… Worcester’s only game action so far this season was a 4-1 win in Providence last Sunday… Tyson Sexsmith stopped 19 shots for the win in that one.

After going winless in a season-opening three-game homestand (0-2-1-0), Binghamton heads down Interstate 81 to meet up with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton tonight… The Senators rallied from three separate deficits before dropping a 5-4 overtime decision to Syracuse last night… Nikita Filatov had two goals and an assist in his B-Sens debut, and Kaspars Daugavins added a goal and an assist… The Penguins lost 7-4 to Springfield last night, despite a two-goal effort from Bryan Lerg… Binghamton was 5-2-0-1 vs. the Penguins last season, accounting for five of Wilkes-Barre’s 21 regulation losses.

Syracuse opens the home portion of its schedule against surging Adirondack at the War Memorial at Oncenter… Brayden Schenn had a hat trick, Harry Zolnierczyk had a goal and three assists and Eric Wellwood recorded four assists in the Phantoms’ 6-3 win over Bridgeport last night… Adirondack has scored 12 goals in its first two games of the year… The Crunch knocked off Binghamton in overtime, 5-4, in its season opener last night… Kyle Palmieri recorded a goal and two assists to lead Syracuse, netting the game-winning tally 3:09 into OT.
