The Charlotte Checkers bring a 2-0 series lead with them to the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for Game 3 of their Atlantic Division semifinal series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight… The Checkers, who won both of their visits to Wilkes-Barre during the regular season, enters Game 3 on a nine-game winning streak by a combined score of 39-14… Defenseman Haydn Fleury (2-1-3) picked up three points in Charlotte’s 4-1 win in Game 2 on Saturday night… Greg McKegg (0-3-3), who played 28 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and 26 more with Pittsburgh this season before being acquired by Carolina on Feb. 26, is the only Checkers forward with more than one point in the series… Alex Nedeljkovic (2-0, 1.46, .945) has stopped 52 of 55 Penguins shots through two games… Andrey Pedan (1-1-2), Daniel Sprong (1-0-1) and Joseph Cramarossa (1-0-1) have the only goals of the series for the Penguins… Cramarossa’s goal came 22 seconds into Game 2 before Wilkes-Barre was shut out over the final 59:38… Tristan Jarry (0-2, 2.45, .922) has allowed five goals on 64 shots in the series… Penguins captain Tom Kostopoulos has played 99 career Calder Cup Playoff games; only 18 skaters in league history have appeared in 100… The Penguins are 16-6 all-time at home when facing elimination… Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is in danger of losing a third consecutive playoff series for the first time in franchise history; Charlotte is looking for its first series win since knocking out the Penguins in 2011.

The Rockford IceHogs have a 2-0 series lead as they return to Allstate Arena with a chance to finish off the Chicago Wolves tonight… After losing twice to the Wolves over the final weekend of the regular season, the IceHogs turned the tables and swept a home-and-home to open the Central Division semifinals… Rockford scored three power-play goals in Sunday’s 5-2 win in Game 2, improving to 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) in the series… Of Rockford’s seven goals in the series, five have come on the power play and one was an empty-netter… Anchoring the IceHogs’ power-play units, defensemen Adam Clendening (1-3-4) and Cody Franson (0-3-3) lead the team in scoring… Collin Delia (2-0, 1.51, .952) has turned aside 59 of 62 Chicago shots in two games… Blueliner Zac Leslie (1-2-3) is the Wolves’ leading scorer entering Game 3… Chicago is 18-9 all-time when facing elimination from the Calder Cup Playoffs, including an 11-5 mark at home… Rockford is 2-2 all-time with a chance to close out a series, but was 0-2 vs. Chicago in 2008… The IceHogs have played seven previous Calder Cup Playoff series, and four have ended in sweeps (1-3).

The defending Calder Cup champions are on the ropes after Manitoba grabbed a 2-1 series lead with a 6-3 win in Grand Rapids last night… The Griffins host Game 4 this evening, looking to extend their title defense for another day… Chase De Leo (1-5-6) had a goal and three assists to lead the Moose offense in Game 3, while Mike Sgarbossa (1-1-2), Sami Niku (1-1-2) and Nic Petan (1-2-3) all chipped in with a goal and an assist… Making his professional debut coming off a 47-goal season with Portland (WHL), Skyler McKenzie scored what stood up as the game-winning goal for Manitoba in Game 3… Eric Comrie (2-1, 3.75, .907) made 45 saves in Game 3 as Grand Rapids finished with a 48-25 advantage in shots… Ben Street (3-3-6) and Eric Tangradi (2-2-4) each picked up a goal and an assist last night for the Griffins, who lost a home playoff game for the first time since 2016 after their 10-0 run last spring… Street’s six points in the series give him 11-16-27 in 22 playoff games in a Griffins uniform… Tom McCollum (1-1, 3.00, .891) allowed three goals on 11 shots in Game 3 before being replaced by Jared Coreau (0-1, 1.61, .917), who stopped 11 of 12 shots in his first appearance this postseason… Grand Rapids is 3-for-14 on the power play in the series; Manitoba is 2-for-9… The Griffins are 11-9 when facing elimination from the AHL playoffs, including 8-4 at Van Andel Arena.

In last night’s Stanley Cup Playoff action, 2005 AHL All-Star Patrice Bergeron recorded a goal and two assists, David Krejci had three assists and Jake DeBrusk scored twice as Boston defeated Toronto, 7-4, in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series… Three players who began the 2017-18 season in the AHL — Boston’s Danton Heinen and Toronto’s Travis Dermott and Kasperi Kapanen — also scored in Game 7.

April 26, 1996 – An AHL playoff record five overtime games are played on one day, including Cornwall’s 2-1 win over Albany to cap the second-biggest upset in Calder Cup Playoffs history… The Aces finished 35 points behind the defending champion River Rats in the regular season.
April 26, 1962 – AHL Hall of Famer Jimmy Anderson’s goal 2:44 into overtime clinches Springfield’s 3-2 win over Buffalo and the Indians’ third consecutive Calder Cup championship, a feat yet to be duplicated.
